The Banja project in partnership with Statkraft, featuring four PV floaters at Albania’s Banja Hydropower Plant, with the first operational since April 2022 and the full 2 MWp system expected to generate nearly 3 GWh of electricity annually.
Hydropower and floating PV are highly synergistic when they share infrastructure and grid connections, reduce water evaporation, and enable more consistent energy generation by complementing each other’s seasonal and daily production patterns.

About Ocean Sun
Land is scarce. Energy demand is soaring. Ocean Sun solves both challenges with floating solar that works where others can't. Our breakthrough membrane technology turns reservoirs, lakes, and coastal waters into clean energy powerhouses while the water keeps panels cool for maximum efficiency. Inspired by Norway’s maritime heritage, we're scaling solutions that deliver affordable renewable energy to those that need it most.

How does the system perform in extreme weather conditions?
Ocean Sun’s system is engineered to withstand harsh marine environments, including storms, strong winds, and typhoons with wind speeds up to 275 km/h. The flexible membrane and low-profile design reduce wind drag, while the mooring system secures the platform to prevent displacement during extreme weather.
How is the system different from pontoon-based floating solar?
Unlike traditional pontoon systems, Ocean Sun uses a patented thin membrane that allows PV modules to rest directly on the water. This provides superior cooling, higher energy yield, and up to 90% lower transport volume. The result is a leaner, more efficient system with faster deployment and significantly lower material use.
What is the typical lifetime of the membrane and system components?
The membrane has a tested lifespan of over 20 years, using high-grade Norwegian-made PVC with proven UV stability and mechanical strength. Other components follow standard PV industry lifetimes. The membrane is replaceable, and regular maintenance ensures long-term system performance.
